HOUSTON -- Day one of the 2007 Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships opened at Rice Track & Soccer Stadium Thursday, with only a few of the Tulane student-athletes from head coach Heather Van Norman's squad in action. Nicolette Taku currently ranks sixth through four events of the heptathlon, with teammate Arielle Minor 10th.

In the 200m-dash portion of the helptahlon, Taku turned in a time of 25.77, fourth among the hepthathlong contestants with Minor finishing ninth at 26.57. Taku took fifth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.22 time, while Minor placed 11th at 16.80. The duo each finished tied for fifth-place in the high jump, at 1.5 meters. Minor's toss of 10.61m in the in the shot put was good for sixth, with Taku in eighth at 10.15m.

Those events featured only the heptathalon athletes Thursday, as the full events will take place on Friday and Saturday.

Later this evening, the women's 10,000m run concludes the first day of the C-USA Championships.

Friday's schedule features a full day of events as the javelin, long jump, shot put, pole vault, and high jump take place on the field side, with the 1500m, 100m hurdles, 400m, 100m, 800m, 200m, and 300m steeplechase runners also in action.
