HOUSTON - The 2007 Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championship kicked into full gear Friday at Rice Track & Soccer Stadium with a full slate of events. Tulane's Aubrey Phillips turned in a top five performance in the 10,000m run and Gloria Asumnu turned in the top time in the 100m and 200m prelims for the Green Wave.

Nicolette Taku finished sixth in the heptathlon after placing third in the long jump (5.17m), 10th in the javelin (18.11m), and sixth in the 800m run (2:31.48).

Arielle Minor finished ninth overall, with a 11th-place (4.66m) performance in the long jump, fifth in the javelin (21.72m) and fifth finish in the 800m run (2:31.08).

In the 10,000-meter run, which was delayed until Friday due to Thursday thunderstorms, Aubrey Phillips placed fifth, with a time of 37:15.

Gloria Asumnu turned in the top preliminary time in the 100m, with an 11.47 mark. Shaina Pelham will join her in Saturday's finals, finishing seventh with a time of 12.05. Taneekwa Ross finished 13th in the 100m (12.15), while Andrea Roseman came in 20th (12.55).

In the 200m, Asumnu earned the top spot with a 23.35 time, while Jasmine Momoh narrowly missed the finals placing ninth (24.37). Pelham placed 11th with a time of 24.60 while Olivia Kizzee came in 15th (24.95) and Rosemond placed 18th (25.40).

A trio of Wave runners finished ninth, 10th and 11th in the 400m dash. Shannon Beelendorf (56.66), Kizzee (56.80) and Momoh (56.81) all finished a fraction of a second away from making the final eight.

Overall, the Tulane women's team ranks 11th entering Saturday's action.
