Blazer Cross Country Finishes Seventh At UAH/Howard Bentley Invitational

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The UAB cross country team opened up its season with a seventh place finish at the UAH/Howard Bentley Invitational early Saturday morning. The Blazers finished with 185 points in the 5K event.

The Blazers had two runners in the top 20. Senior Carla Kelly (Auburn, Ala.) finished in eighth place with a time of 20:07 while freshman Heather Burdett (Burlington, Ontario, Canada) finished 20th with a 20:50 mark.

Meggan Hodge of Mississippi State won the individual title with a time of 19:18.

Hodge led the Bulldogs as they captured top honors with 38 points, eight points ahead of second place finisher and host school UAH (46). Rounding out the top-five were Carson-Newman (136), Birmingham-Southern(140) and Valdosta State (148).

The Blazers return to action on Sept. 15 in Tuscaloosa, Ala. at the Crimson Classic.
