    Marquette's Susan Barth and Jessie Swan share Sept. 10's C-USA Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week, after both finished first at the Great Americans Legends Meet in West Lafayette, Ind. On the men's side, South Florida's Andrew Smith, who won the Indiana Open last weekend, earned his first C-USA Athlete of the Week honor.

    C-USA ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

    Women – Susan Barth and Jessie Swan, Marquette

    Barth and Swan crossed the finish line together at the Great Americans Legends Meet last weekend in West Lafayette, Ind. They tied for first with a time of 22:03, defeating 107 other competitors.

    Men – Andrew Smith, South Florida

    Smith finished first out of 29 runners at the Indiana Open last weekend in Bloomington, Ind. He captured the 7K event with a time of 22:32.50.

    Charlotte opened the season with a first-place showing at the Charlotte Relay Invitational last weekend. The relay team of JEN TAYLOR and CASSIE FICKEN finished first with a time of 22:03.1. Charlotte will next compete at the Wake Forest Invitational on Saturday … CINCINNATI finished fourth out of six teams in the Miami Invitational on Sept. 7. Junior RUTH LIMO was the Bearcats’ top overall finisher, placing ninth with a time of 18:36 in her UC debut. Junior JENNIFER LIMLE and senior MISSY TITUS also earned top 25 finishes for Cincinnati, placing 23rd (19:23) and 24th (19:26), respectively ... DePAUL opened the 2002 season with a fifth place finish at the Crusader Invitational on Sept. 6. MICHELLE ORFIELD led the Blue Demons with a time of 26:54 for 26th place, while SHELLY KNIGHT placed 27th (26:55). The Blue Demons will next take part in the Pre-NCAA Regional meet on Saturday in Normal, Ill. … East Carolina earned second-place honors at the High Point Invitational sponsored by Elon College last weekend. KAY LIVICK finished in fourth place with a time of 18:33, and was the only Pirate to crack the top 10. JESSICA COLLINS completed the race in 12th place, while REBELEAH BISHOP finished in 18th … Junior EMILY DAUNHAUER led Louisville with a 20th-place finish at the Great American Legends meet on Sept. 7 at Purdue University. Daunhauer finished the 6000-meter course in 24:08 to lead the Cardinals for the second consecutive week. Sophomore HEATHER GRIFFITH placed 32nd with a time of 24:53, followed by junior LAINE HAMMAN (52nd) and sophomore CORRYN McCRAE (53rd). The Cardinals travel to Nashville on Sept. 21 to compete in the Commodore Classic ... Marquette opened its season in strong fashion at the Great Americans Legends Meet in West Lafayette, Ind. The Golden Eagles claimed the top three individual spots in the 100-runner field. Senior JESSIE SWAN (22:03), senior SUSAN BARTH (22:03), and senior JACKIE SWAN (22:34) rounded out the top three. Freshman ALI SAUER was the fourth Golden Eagle to post a top ten finish, finishing 10th with a time of 23:43 … South Florida finished third at the Indiana Open last weekend in Bloomington, Ind. CHRISTA BENTON began her 2003 campaign with a third-place showing. She covered the 5k event with a time of 18:19.30. KRISTY FULLER came in sixth at 18:43.60, while CORI KILL and JESSICA HELLENDER rounded out the Bulls’ top 10 placing eighth and ninth, respectively. ASHLEY MCOMAS finished 14th with a time of 20:10.30 … Southern Miss opened the 2002 season at the Tulane Invitational, finishing fifth out of seven teams. The Golden Eagles placed two runners in the top 10. JESSICA CRUMP placed sixth, while KERI WHITE earned an eighth-place finish ... EVA LUSTIGOVA led Tulane to a first place finish in the Tulane Invitational for the second year in a row. The junior, who won the race last year, finished third on the two-mile course with a time of 12:14.22, finishing ahead of 59 other runners. Following Lustigova for the Wave women was sophomore MEGAN WHELTON who placed fifth place and freshman LISA GREEN in seventh place. Sophomore MANDY HOPPER took 14th place for the Wave ... UAB opened its 2002 season with an eighth place finish here at the Belmont Opener in Nashville, Tenn. Junior AMANDA KARA was the Blazers' top individual finisher as she took 23rd overall with a time of 11:54.92. Rounding out for UAB were EMILY SCARBROUGH in 58th place; HEATHER BURDETTE Heather Burdette in 59th; and DONNA PUCKE in 71st.

    Charlotte captured the first three spots to win the Charlotte Relay Invitational Sept. 7 .The team of JAMIL MUHAIMIN and LUKE PITMAN set the pace with a combined time of 32:47.1. The Niners compete at the Wake Forest Invitational on Saturday. … Freshman KEVIN SCHWARZ led Cincinnati to a fourth place finish at the Miami Invitational last weekend. In his collegiate debut, Schwarz placed 10th with a time of 26:17. Freshman TIM KING also earned a top-25 result, placing 19th in 27:09. The Bearcats return to action next Saturday, Sept. 14 when they travel to Bowling Green, Ohio for the annual Mel Brodt Invitational ... DePaul placed third at the Crusader Invitational on Sept. 6 in Valparaiso, Ind. RICK BRITTON led the Blue Demons with a 12th place overall (27:43). KIM TRIEU (27:44) and DARSHAN PATEL (27:44) followed in 13th and 14th place, respectively … East Carolina placed second at the High Point Invitational last weekend. The Pirates finished the meet with a score of 53, while High Point won the men’s division with a score of 19. KYLE MACKENZIE crossed the finish line with a time of 26:08, also establishing a new ECU course record. MATT HANLON was the second Pirate finisher (14th) with a time of 27:11. The Pirates will next participate in the Wolfpack Invitational on Sept. 21 in Raleigh, N.C. ... Marquette competed at the Great American Legends Meet last weekend in West Lafayette, Ind. The Golden Eagles were paced by freshman BRENT DES ROCHES who finished 11th in the 100-runner field with a time of 26:02. Sophomore JASON CRICHTON was right behind Des Roches in 12th place with an effort of 26:08. DAVE LANCE placed 14th (26:13) while sophomore BO ERICKSON was the fourth MU runner to rank among the top 15 finishers with a mark of 26:21 ... South Florida’s ANDREW SMITH won the Indiana Open last weekend in Bloomington, Ind. He covered the event with a time of 22:10.40. ADAM CHUMBLEYand SEAN BURRIS were the Bulls other two runners in the top 10 finishing fourth (22:32.50) and 10th (23:10.30), respectively. DEREK LINCOLN finished 20th in his first collegiate race with a time of 24:38 while TONY GREECH rounded out the Bulls performers finishing 27th (25:37.40) … Tulane earned third place honors at the Tulane Invitational last weekend. Senior ADAM LESKIS was the top finisher for the Green Wave with a time of 15:39.50 for sixth place, while sophomore WILL LANDRY earned 16th place.
