IRVING, Texas- After three weeks of competition, Conference USA cross country teams are not only trekking over green hills and dirt paths but up national polls as well. Continuing from last season’s success, UTEP men’s team ranks 12th while Rice women ranks 18th in the Men and Women’s Division I Cross Country National Polls as voted by the USTFCCCA with Tulsa’s men’s team also receiving votes.
The Miners wrapped up the 2007 season by finishing 10th at the NCAA Division I Championships, while the Owls placed 16th on the women’s side.
Several conference teams have found their way into the regional rankings. On the men’s side, Tulsa ranks fourth in the Midwest Region behind Oklahoma State, who’s second in the national, followed by ninth-ranked Minnesota, and Iowa State. UTEP is fourth in the Mountain Region. Filling out the ranks in the South Central Region is No. 7 Rice and No. 11 Houston.
On the women’s side, Rice sports the highest C-USA regional ranking of any team at No. 2 in the South Central Region, followed by No. 7 SMU and No. 11 Houston. Tulsa also ranks among the top 5 in the Midwest Region as the Golden Hurricane are fifth, behind four nationally-ranked teams which includes No. 9 Minnesota, No. 10 Illinois, No. 27 Iowa and No. 30 Nebraska. In the South Region, UAB and UCF are ranked No. 7 and No. 15, respectively.
