Marquette University Women's Cross Country Team Posts Eighth-Place Finish at Roy Griak Invitational
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's cross country team turned in an eighth-place finish out of 29 teams Saturday at the Roy Griak Invitational. The 6k event was held at the Bolstad Golf Course in St. Paul, Minn.
The Golden Eagles finished 243 points in the competitive field that featured eight teams ranked among the top 25 squads in the nation. Host Minnesota, ranked No. 13 in the nation, claimed first-place honors with 98 points while Yale (127 pts.) and Arizona State (140 pts.), ranked No. 7 nationally, finished second and third, respectively. Rounding out the top seven teams were Arizona (146 pts.), Providence (159 pts.) Colorado State (172 pts.) and Oregon (232 pts.). Marquette entered the competition ranked 23rd in the nation.
Marquette's top finisher was sophomore Susan Barth (Bluffton, Ind.) who finished 17th in the 199-runner field with a time of 21:41. Other strong performances were turned in by sophomore Jessie Sawn (West Allis, Wis.), who finished 27th overall with an effort of 21:52, and junior Bethany Harry (Forty-Fort, Penn.), whose time of 22:04 placed her 40th. Taking home first-place honors was University of Arizona junior Tara Chaplin with a mark of 21:00.
