C-USA ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Women – KAY LIVICK, East Carolina
Livick placed second overall at the Overton’s/Pirate Invitational, setting a new school record with a time of 18:52.
Men – KRISTIAN JORGENSEN, East Carolina
Jorgensen led the Pirates to a first place finish at the Overton’s/Pirate Invitational last weekend. He captured his first career individual title with a school record time of 15:55.
NOTING CONFERENCE USA CROSS COUNTRY Women Charlotte placed seventh in the open/college division of the Great American Cross Country Festival. LAURA SYRACUSE and CASSIE FICKEN both placed in the top 10, taking ninth and 10th, respectively. The 49ers next compete at the Hagan Stone Park Cross Country Classic on Saturday…East Carolina finished first at the Overton’s/Pirate Invitational last weekend. KAY LIVICK placed second overall and set a school record with a time of 18:52 … Louisville had six runners finish in the top 25 to place second at the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic Saturday. The top five U of L finishers were all within 20 seconds of one another, led by sophomore HEATHER GRIFFITH’s 12th-place time of 19:30.57. Junior EMILY DAUNHAUER finished 16th in 19:36.58, while sophomore CORRYN MCCRAE (18th), freshman EMILY LEEPER (20th), freshman CRYSTAL DUFFALA (24th) and junior BETH WENDT (25th) rounded out the Cards' top-25 finishers. Louisville returns to action Saturday when it hosts the Cardinal Cross Country Classic …14th-ranked Marquette came in fourth out of 22 schools at the prestigious Roy Griak Invitational meet in St. Paul, Minn. Last weekend. Two Golden Eagles claimed top 10 finishes—senior JESSIE SWAN (21:22) and senior SUSAN BARTH (21:24) took home eighth and ninth places. Senior JACKIE SWAN (21:47) and freshman JODI JAKUBEK (22:14) finished in the top 50 with their respective 21st and 44th place marks … South Florida placed 14th out of 26 teams last weekend in the Great American Cross Country Festival. The Bulls were led by CHRISTA BENTON who finished 14th with a time of 18:54.5 in the 5K. JESSICA HELLENDER stepped up as the Bulls’ No. 2 runner, finishing 47th (19:36.4), while KRISTY FULLER and CORI KILL placed 59th and 84th, respectively.
Men Charlotte placed 19th in the Great American Cross Country Festival last weekend. VINCE SHERRY was the lead runner for the 49ers, finishing 22nd. The 49ers will next compete at the Hagan Stone Park Cross Country Classic next weekend ... East Carolina finished first at the Overton’s/Pirate Invitational last weekend. KRISTIAN JORGENSEN set a school record in the 5K with a time of 15:55 to earn first place honors … Freshman TIM KAISER placed 24th to lead Louisville to a sixth-place finish at the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic Saturday. Kaiser ran the course in 26:42.96 to lead the Cardinals for the second straight meet. Sophomore BRIAN HURST finished 34th with a time of 26:58.91, while senior MIKE HORAN was right behind him in 26:59.44. Senior TIM FRANXMAN (44th) and freshman KYLE BOWLING (49th) also recorded top-50 finishes. Louisville returns to action Saturday when it hosts the Cardinal Cross Country Classic at the U of L Shelby Campus … Marquette finished third out of 11 teams with 74 points at the Central Collegiate Conference race in Ypsilanti, Mich. Five Golden Eagles placed in the top 20 of a field of 70 runners. DAVE LANCE (25:47) finished 9th, BRENT DES ROCHES (25:55) finished 12th, BO ERICKSON (26:11) posted a 16th place showing ... Memphis finished 19th out of 30 teams at the Iona College Meet of Champions here, Saturday morning. The Tigers were led by senior BALAZS LASZLO, who crossed the line 39th overall in 25:57.7. Senior HUGH FERRY, who finished 79th in 26:43.5 and TRAVIS PRESSLER finished 126th overall in 27:43.6 … Saint Louis’ MIKE ISAAC was the top Billiken, coming in 15th place (27:58.7) at the Cross Country-Only National Championship meet. Senior MIKE MCCASLIN powered by two runners down the stretch to record a 20th place finish at 28:10.1. PAT HENCHY was 23rd overall, while JOE PORTER tallied a 29th place finish at 28:23.4 … South Florida’s ANDREW SMITH finished 40th (27:29.4) overall at the Great American Cross Country Festival. ADAM CHUMBLEY ran 27:51.1 to finish 62nd, while RAYMOND CHUMBLEY placed 160th (31.46.4).
