USF Cross Country Teams Get Third Straight Sweep

The USF men's and women's cross country teams have stepped up to the starting line three times this season, and they have come away with sweeping victories in all three meets, the most recent coming at the Greensboro Invitational, Saturday, September 30.

In the women's race, USF senior Rita Arndt finished second over the 5,000 meter course, in a time of 17:58 to lead the Bulls to a tight victory over second place Iowa State in the 12-team field. USF finished with 31 points, followed by Iowa State at 37.

In addition to Arndt, USF runners Cori Kill (5th), Kristy Fuller (7th), Tara Quinn (8th), Tiffany Quinn (9th) and Jen Dorna (10th) all finished among the top 10.

In the men's 8,000 meter race, USF runners finished 1-2-3, led by junior Andrew Smith in 25:12. Senior Russ Gerbers placed second in 25:17, and junior Barry Egan was third in 25:25. Richard Jones (5th) and Matt Johnson (8th) were also among the top 10 finishers.

The men scored 19, a decisive victory over second place Tennessee in the 15-team field.

The USF men and women had already won the Mountaineer (Appalachian State) Open and the Alabama Crimson Classic prior to the Greensboro race.
