USF Cross Country Teams Get Third Straight Sweep
The USF men's and women's cross country teams have stepped up to the
starting line three times this season, and they have come away with sweeping
victories in all three meets, the most recent coming at the Greensboro
Invitational, Saturday, September 30.
In the women's race, USF senior Rita Arndt finished second over the 5,000
meter course, in a time of 17:58 to lead the Bulls to a tight victory over
second place Iowa State in the 12-team field. USF finished with 31 points,
followed by Iowa State at 37.
In addition to Arndt, USF runners Cori Kill (5th), Kristy Fuller (7th), Tara
Quinn (8th), Tiffany Quinn (9th) and Jen Dorna (10th) all finished among the
top 10.
In the men's 8,000 meter race, USF runners finished 1-2-3, led by junior
Andrew Smith in 25:12. Senior Russ Gerbers placed second in 25:17, and
junior Barry Egan was third in 25:25. Richard Jones (5th) and Matt Johnson
(8th) were also among the top 10 finishers.
The men scored 19, a decisive victory over second place Tennessee in the
15-team field.
The USF men and women had already won the Mountaineer (Appalachian State)
Open and the Alabama Crimson Classic prior to the Greensboro race.
