Marquette Cross Country Set To Run At NCAA Regionals
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's Cross Country team, ranked 18th in the nation and the men's Cross Country team, ranked 9th in the Great Lakes region, will travel to Terre Haute, Ind. on Saturday, Nov. 10 to participate in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional.
The women enter the meet coming off a Conference USA Championship win. Led by sophomore Brianna Dahm and junior Susan Barth, the Golden Eagles are looking for their second consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships.
"If we run like we did at conference, we can definitely do it," said head coach Dave
Uhrich. "Wisconsin, Michigan, Notre Dame and Toledo are all tough, but Michigan
State looks to be the favorite. It will just come down to who runs best."
The men's team finished second overall at the Conference meet and looks to finish in the top ten at the regional.
"The men's side is tougher than the women's," said Uhrich. "There eight teams who are nationally ranked or have votes in the poll. Again, we had a good conference meet. If we run like that, we will definitely finish in the top 10.
Seniors Joe Herington (Westerville, Ohio), Luke Kunze and Adam Lindell look to lead the Golden Eagles this weekend.
The top two teams at the regional move on to the NCAA National Championship on Nov. 19 in Greenville S.C. There are nine regionals across the country allowing for 18 automatic bids. The final 13 at-large bids will be chosen based on a team's win-loss record against automatically qualified teams.
"That is why it is important to go to meets like Minnesota and the Pre-NCAA," added Uhrich. "We need to beat teams who make it
to the national meet."
The Marquette men finished 22nd at the Pre-NCAA meet and 28th at the Minnesota Invitational.
