South Florida Take Title at NCAA South Regional Cross Country Championships
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - University of South Florida captured the 6K title
with 71 points at the NCAA South Regional Cross Country Championship
hosted by University of Alabama on Saturday. UAB finished the meet with
422 points and finished in 17th place.
Sophomore Amanda Kara lead the Blazers with a time of 23:14.27 finishing
in 78th place. Freshman Amanda Bradford finished 80th with a time of
23:17.53. Tennessee's Sharon Dickie won the race with a time of
20:38.79.
Other Blazer finishes include Andrea Burdett (93rd) 23:38.25, Carla
Kelly (107th) 24:10.75, Christie Caywood (123rd) 25:34.54, Donna Pucke
(125th) 25:48.09.
In-state rivals Georgia and Georgia Tech hotly contested the second
automatic bid to the NCAA Championships to a draw. Both teams finished
with 107 points, tied for second place. The tie breaker, the placing of
the fifth runner, gave the bid to Georgia Tech. It was a tremendous
performance for the Yellowjackets, which finished seventh at the ACC
Championships two weeks ago.
