Three Marquette Women Earn All-Regional Honors at Great Lakes Regional

The Marquette men’s and women’s cross country teams will have to wait until Monday to see if they will receive an invitation to the NCAA Championship meet. The women took fifth at today’s Great Lakes Regional meet in Terre Haute, Ind. while the men took 12th.
Sophomore Jodi Jakubek led the way for the women placing eleventh overall with a time of 21:09.0 for the 6,000m course, earning All-Regional Honors.

“I thought we had a very good race, everyone ran really well, our goal was to be top four, but Indiana ran a really good race and snuck in front of us," head coach Dave Uhrich said.
Also earning All-Region honors was senior Brianna Dahm who placed 17th overall with a time of 21:20.4 and freshman Heidi Lindeman who placed 21st with a time of 21:27.8. This was the first time that the Golden Eagles had three members on the All-Regional team and the first time a Golden Eagle freshman was on the team.

“I thought the whole team did well and feel good about the race, now, it is just waiting to see if we get a bid to the national meet,” Uhrich said.
A total of 13 teams will receive at-large bids to the national meet, which will take place on Nov. 24 in Waterloo, Iowa. The announcement will be made on Monday. Sophomore Brent Des Roches, who placed 64th overall with a time of 32:03.1, again led the men on the 10,000m course.

“I’m pleased with our finish,” Uhrich said. “All of the teams ahead of us are very good teams, and we beat some very good teams. After coming off an emotional victory at the Conference USA meet, we could have very easily had a let down and we didn’t.”

Freshman Jeremy Williams took 70th overall with a time of 32:11.7 and senior Jake Remitz placed 74th overall with a time of 32:23.9.
“I was real pleased with the way we finished our season,” Uhrich said. “Our men’s region is by far the best in the country and competed well.”
