UAB Finishes Tied For 11th at NCAA South Regional

UAB cross country finished in a tie for 11th at the South Regional Championship, in Auburn, Ala., on Saturday. Senior Amanda Kara completed her UAB career leading the Blazers with a 31st place finish, her best finish at a regional.

"Our team ran a good race," said UAB head coach Ray Stanfield. "This is something we hope to build on. The team is realizing that every point counts in every race and I think that will help us next season."

Kara, one of only two seniors on the team this year, completed the 6K course with a time of 21:54.96. She has led UAB in each of the last three races.

"This is a great ending to Amanda's outstanding career," said Stanfield. "She has been invaluable to our program over the last several years and is going to be difficult to replace. We all relied on her so much last season and this year, she proved to be an outstanding leader."

Freshman Emry McKay was the next highest finisher for the Blazers, coming in 44th position with a time of 22:19.27. Freshman Elizabeth Ambrus ran a 22:48.90 to place in 71st overall. Ambrus was followed by freshman Jennifer Thompson who placed 81st with a time of 23:02.23.

Other Blazer finishers include Ryanne Fortney who finished the Championship in 87th with a time of 23:09.56. Freshman Maureen McDonald (24:23.89) and junior Emily Scarbrough (24:25.68) rounded out the team, placing in 138th and 139th, respectively.
