Freshman Risper Kimaiyo capped off a spectacular freshman season earning USTFCCCA All-America honors after a ninth place finish at the 2009 NCAA Cross Country Championships at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course in Terre haute, Ind., on Monday morning.
The Iten, Kenya, native posted a time of 20:11 to lead the UTEP women's team to a 22nd team finish. Kimaiyo was followed by junior Gladys Chumba (104th) with a time of 21:32. Kathya Garcia was 110th clocking in at 21:35 with Jepchirchir Kigen coming in a few seconds later (21:48) to finish 135th. Karina Garcia rounded up the top five with a 142nd place finish after completing the course in 21:53. Other finishers for the women were Kitria Stewart (215th-25:26) and Kim Martinez (216th - 26:10).
Senior Nicodemus Ng'etich fell short of a second consecutive All-American recognition after completing the 10K with a time of 24:32 (100th), while Elkana Rotich finished 102nd (24:42).
