For just the third time in program history, UCF is 7-0. The Knights have never started 8-0, which they will try to do on Tuesday against Jacksonville. After opening the week with a dramatic come-from-behind win over No. 5 Missouri, UCF swept a three-game series from Central Michigan to continue its hot streak and remain the league's only unbeaten team. Rice is also on a roll. The Owls were 3-0 against Big 12 opponents at the Minute Maid College Classic in downtown Houston. The Owls opened with a 7-2 win over Oklahoma, turned back No. 3 Texas 10-4 on Saturday night and then held off Texas Tech, 5-4 on Sunday to run its win streak to six games. Southern Miss became the fifth different C-USA team to post a win over a ranked opponent in the first 10 days of the season when righthander Barry Bowden and the Golden Eagles shut out Louisiana-Lafayette, 6-0 on Friday night. Southern Miss downed Miami (Ohio) on Saturday, 4-1, before dropping Sunday's rematch with ULL, 2-0. East Carolina and Memphis both posted 2-1 records at home, with defeats coming by one run on Friday. The Pirates rebounded to take two-of-three from Monmouth, including a pitching gem by Justin Bristow on Sunday, as he tossed a complete-game shutout. The Tigers won the final two games against Ohio U., as Trey Wiedman helped fuel both victories with home runs. Elsewhere around the league, UAB split a four game series with Brown, while Tulane went 1-2 at the Dairy Queen Classic, losing to No. 29 Pepperdine and Minnesota before defeating TCU. Houston was 1-2 at the Minute Maid College Classic, downing Texas Tech on Friday before dropping back-to-back extra-inning games to Oklahoma and Texas, while Marshall went 1-3 at the Baseball at the Beach Tournament in South Carolina.
