CO-HITTERS OF THE WEEK RYAN NORWOOD, EAST CAROLINA Sophomore, 1B, Richmond, Va. Norwood batted .500 (7-for-14) in three games vs. UAB with five extra-base hits and four runs scored. In the series finale, Norwood registered his first career four-hit game, going 4-for-5 with a double and a three-run homer, leading ECU to a 12-9 win.

C-USA NOTEBOOK
CHARLOTTE The 49ers dropped two of three games to TCU over the weekend and hold a one-game lead over Memphis for the final spot in the Conference USA Tournament heading into the final weekend of play. Charlotte will play at Cincinnati, while Memphis travels to south Florida. The 49ers pounded out a season-high 20 hits in Saturday's wild 20-15 loss, the most hits they've had in a game since recording 25 against Tulane on March 16, 2002. Charlotte scored eight runs in the bottom-of-the-ninth and had the bases loaded when the game ended. Sophomore OF ADAM WILLARD became the third 49ers player this season to hit a pair of home runs in a game when he went deep twice in the series opener on Friday. Charlotte scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning in that game to win, 9-6, marking the Niners first win this season in 20 tries when trailing after seven innings.
CINCINNATI The Bearcats dropped two-of-three games at Saint Louis this past weekend, eliminating UC from contention for a spot in the Conference USA Tournament. Saturday's heartbreaking 5-4 loss was the 11th one run loss suffered by the Bearcats this season. Senior RHP B.J. BORSA, who set a new Conference USA career record for complete games with 13 this season, will attempt to become UC's all-time victory leader in his next start. Borsa has 19 career wins and holds the school's career marks for starts (59) and innings pitched (363). UC will play its 39th and final road game of the season on Tuesday at No. 20 Notre Dame. Due to the renovation of its on-campus facility, the Bearcats played only conference games in Cincinnati this season.
EAST CAROLINA The Pirates won their eighth Conference USA series of the year this past weekend, taking two-of-three games from UAB. Sunday's 12-9 win gave East Carolina at least 30 wins for the sixth consecutive season. The Pirates pounded out a season-high 17 hits in Friday night's 11-8 victory. Sophomore 1B RYAN NORWOOD (2), sophomore SS DARRYL LAWHORN and freshman DH ADAM WITTER combined to hit four home runs in the win, tying an ECU season-high. It was Lawhorn's 22nd game with two or more hits this season. Junior OF JAIME PAIGE went 7-for-15 from his lead-off position in the UAB series, scoring five runs and driving in five. Catcher JAKE SMITH leads all C-USA Freshmen with eight home runs.
HOUSTON The Cougars dropped two-of-three at Memphis this past weekend. The 17-10 conference means that Houston has lost more than eight league games in a season for the first time ever. However, the Cougars enter the final league weekend with a chance to finish in second place. UH has finished first or second in each of its first six years as a member of C-USA. Sophomore RHP RYAN WAGNER set a school record by picking up his 11th save of the season in Saturday's 11-8 win. He also tied Larry Coker's career saves record of 19. With 12 strikeouts in the series opener at Memphis, junior RHP BRAD SULLIVAN became the school's all-time strikeout leader, finishing the evening with 395 K's. He has registered 11 or more strikeouts in eight of his ninth conference starts and now has 14 career games with at least 10 K's.
LOUISVILLE The Cardinals took two-of-three from No. 24 Tulane this past weekend. The wins raised Louisville's season victory total to 30, marking the fifth time in the last six seasons that the Cards have won at least 30 games under head coach LELO PRADO. JOSH BOLEN and MORGAN BOJORQUEZ celebrated Sunday's senior day by combining on a 7-for-8 afternoon with four RBI and three runs, each hitting a home run in U of L's 7-5 win. Bolen leads the team with as .388 average and tops the league in triples (4), while ranking third in runs scored (57). Senior RHP CARLOS FERNANDEZ picked up his ninth save of the year on Sunday, one shy of the single-season school record. With 49 2/3 innings pitched on the season, he now leads C-USA in earned run average at 1.45. Junior C RON BRAUN leads the league in batting (.425) and on-base percentage (.505) in conference games only.
MEMPHIS Memphis took two of three from Houston to clinch its first series win over the Cougars since UH joined the league in 1997. The Tigers have won six of eight in C-USA play after opening the year 4-14. Junior RHP JARRETT GRUBE won his third-straight league start in Friday night's series opener and has allowed just one unearned run in his last 19.2 innings of work. Centerfielder KEVIN HOUSE led off the first two games of the Houston series with solo home runs and hit safely in all three games to extend his hitting streak to 17 games overall and 13 in C-USA play. Friday's home run snapped a 42 game homerless drought for the centerfielder and was his first in league action. Junior C KURT WELCH went 4-for-5 with three RBIs in the rubber match of the Houston series in just his second game back from a wrist injury. It was his second four-hit game of the season.
SAINT LOUIS The Billikens won their second Conference USA series of the year by taking two-of-three from Cincinnati over the weekend. Four different Saint Louis players hit over .350 in the series, while the Billikens pitching staff posted a 1.91 ERA with 34 strikeouts vs. the Bearcats. Friday night's 15-inning game with Cincinnati was the second-longest game in the history of The Billiken Sports Center, falling just shy of the 16-inning affair between SLU and Missouri Baptist in 1994. The Billikens' three pitchers combined for a school-record 17 strikeouts in the outing, while three hitters matched the school record with seven at-bats. On Saturday, senior 3B DEREK MUNCY delivered a two-out single in the bottom of the ninth to give SLU a 6-5 win. Senior RHP COREY LAWSON delivered the Billikens' first shutout of the season, topping Cincinnati 5-0 on Sunday. The complete game blanking lowered his ERA to 4.61 for the season and 3.88 for his career, which ranks him second in school history.
SOUTH FLORIDA USF was swept at Southern Miss and has dropped six consecutive games. After winning the series opener at TCU two weeks ago, the Bulls have lost five straight C-USA games for the first time since 1999. USF scored just seven runs in 28 innings last week. Junior RHP JON UHL allowed one run - a game-tying home run in the eighth inning - over 7 2/3 innings Friday at USM and did not figure in the decision, a 2-1 USF loss. Uhl has a 1.09 ERA over his last three starts, allowing three earned runs in 24 2/3 innings, but is just 1-0 with two no decisions to show for it. Sophomore 3B JEFF BAISLEY had five of USF's 22 weekend hits and drove in two of the four runs; he hit .417 (5-of-12). Senior RHP DAVID AUSTEN has 91 strikeouts, which ranks No. 12 on the USF all-time single-season list; his 17 starts are tied at No. 8. The lineup has produced 130 doubles, sixth-best all-time at USF; the record is 151 set in 1995.
SOUTHERN MISS The Golden Eagles swept a three-game series from South Florida and hold a one-game lead over TCU heading into the final weekend of the regular season. The 21 conference wins are a new school record for USM and their next victory will tie the C-USA record of 22 held by the 2002 Houston team and the 1998 Tulane squad. Sophomore OF CLINT KING hit .462 (6-for-13) against USF with three doubles and his 17th home run of the season. Senior MATT BENSON gave USM a 2-1 victory in Friday night's series opener with a two-out, pinch-hit walk-off home run, his second this season. Senior RHP STEPHEN CASTLEMAN struck out seven over six innings on Sunday to earn his sixth win of the year, matching his career total over his first three seasons. He also has a career-high 64 strikeouts in 2003. Over their last 10 games, the Golden Eagles have outscored their opponents, 62-32, hitting 19 doubles, one triple and 13 home runs. At .318, Southern Miss is on pace for its second-highest team batting average ever (.323 in 1994). The pitching staff currently owns the second-best ERA in school history at 3.74, trailing only the 1991 NCAA squad and its 3.57 mark.
TCU The Horned Frogs took two-of-three at Charlotte this past weekend, exploding for 38 runs in the two wins. TCU batted around six times in those two games and all nine starters recorded five or more hits in the series. The Frogs have now won 14 of their first 19 series as members of Conference USA. Junior DH CHRIS NEUMAN hit a pair of home runs at Charlotte to move into a tie for seventh place on the school's single-season home run list with 16. The 16 round-trippers are the most by a Horned Frog since Chris Connally and Royce Huffman each blasted 17 in 1998. Senior C JUSTIN HATCHER was TCU's top hitter last week, batting .615 (8-for-13) with a double, a home run and six RBI. The Frogs hit 11 home runs over the weekend, raising their season total to 55, second-highest in C-USA. In 52 games, TCU has hit 104 doubles (2.00 per game). Six different players have at least 11 two-baggers, led by senior OF CHRIS MEEKS with 16 and senior 3B MIKE SETTLE with 15.
TULANE The Green Wave ran their winning streak to seven games before dropping the final two games of the series at Louisville this past weekend. Junior 1B MICHAEL AUBREY was 5-for-11 in the series with at least two RBI in each game. He closed out the three-game set with a double, two home runs and seven RBI. Aubrey's .433 batting average is 38 points higher than any other player in Conference USA. Freshman pitchers have combined for 25 of the Wave's 37 wins, along with a pair of saves. Southpaw J.R. CROWEL leads the group of seven rookie hurlers with a 7-0 mark and a 3.09 ERA with a team-best 61 strikeouts. Tulane brings a school-record 23 game home winning streak into this weekend's final regular season series vs. East Carolina. Tulane is 27-1 at Turchin Stadium in 2003.
UAB UAB dropped two-of-three in its first-ever series at East Carolina over the weekend. Senior OF KYLE LEON was the Blazers leading hitter in the series, going 5-for-12 (.417) with a double, two homers and five RBI. His 52 RBI this season are the most by a UAB player since Dan DeMent had 59 during the 2000 season. Senior RHP SCOTT GIBSON picked up his team-leading sixth victory of the season in the middle game of the series. He ranks sixth in C-USA in earned run average at 2.66 and opponents are batting just .223 against him. Junior RHP LUCAS TROTTER's 85 strikeouts are the mosy by a UAB pitcher since Mark Gray registered 90 during the 1997 season.

Conference USA games in Bold
HOME RUN NOTES When Cincinnati's STEVE PICKERELL hit three home runs at Xavier (Ohio) on April 29, he became the fourth player this season to hit three homers in the same game. 1998 was the only season that more than four C-USA players hit three round-trippers, as seven players accomplished the feat. Pickerell became the 23rd player in C-USA's first eight seasons to hit three homers in a game.
A total of 29 different Conference USA players have hit two or more home runs in a game this season. JEFF COOK of Southern Miss is the only player to do it three times, while USM teammates CLINT KING and JARRETT HOFFAPUIR are joined by East Carolina's RYAN NORWOOD and Houston's HYUNG CHO in reaching the feat twice.
