May 19 Baseball Players of the Week

Jeff Cook

Three seniors pick uo the final weekly awards of the 2003 regular season. UAB's Lucas Trotter takes the pitching honor after a career-best performance in his final Blazer outing. USM's Jeff Cook and TCU's Chris Meeks share the hitting honors for their explosive performances at the plate.

CO-HITTERS OF THE WEEK
JEFF COOK, SOUTHERN MISS

Senior, OF, Hattiesburg, Miss.
Cook hit .634 (9-for-14) in three games at Houston, hitting three doubles and three home runs, while driving in seven runs. His first two home runs on Thursday off of UH’s Brad Sullivan allowed him to become the school’s all-time home run leader. Cook had at least two hits and two runs scored in each outing, finishing the series with nine runs scored and 21 total bases. This is the fourth time that Cook has been named C-USA Hitter of the Week this season, a new record.

CHRIS MEEKS, TCU
Senior, OF, Brownswood, Texas
Meeks was 10-for-14 (.714) in three games against Louisville, recording at least three hits and two runs scored in each outing. He tripled in all three games and also had a double and three RBI, while walking three times for a .765 on-base percentage.

In his final appearance in a UAB uniform, Trotter threw a complete-game shutout against Saint Louis, striking out a career high 13. He allowed just three hits and walked only two. Trotter’s 13 K’s allowed him to set a new UAB single-season strikeout record with 98.
