Photo Gallery NEW ORLEANS, La. - Marshall's top three hitters combined to go 6-for-12 with five RBI and nine pitchers combined to limit the Golden Eagles to six hits as the Thundering Herd defeated Southern Miss, 6-2, in day four of the 2008 Entergy Conference USA Baseball Championship at the new Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. Ryan Keil (3-1) - the fourth pitcher to take the mound for the Herd - earned the win after allowing just a hit and two walks while striking out three in 3.0 scoreless innings. Arik Sikula, who earned the win against Tulane earlier in the day, picked up his eighth save of the year after getting the final two outs of the ballgame. With Marshall leading 1-0 after two innings, centerfielder Nate Lape hammered a three-run homer in the third to make it a 4-0 ballgame. Southern Miss plated a pair of runs in the home half of the inning on a two-run bomb by centerfielder Bo Davis to cut the lead in half, but Marshall got the runs back in the fifth courtesy of RBI-single by Josh Valle and a run-scoring double off the bat of Lape. Southern Miss made things interesting in the bottom of the ninth as James Ewing singled and Kyle Maxie walked to put two on with only one out. A wild pitch allowed the pair to each advance 90 feet and Chris Matesich beat out a ground ball to short for an RBI single which plated Ewing and brought the tying run to the plate. Sikula, however, got Keith Winstead to fly out to center for the final out of the ballgame. With the win, Marshall (29-29-1) forces an elimination game with Southern Miss (40-19) and the two teams will play on Sunday at 9 a.m. to determine which club will play in the C-USA Championship Game. The winner of tomorrow morning's game will take on the winner of tonight's Houston/UAB matchup on Sunday at 1 p.m.
