For the first time ever, all four top seeds won during day one action of the 2005 Conference USA Baseball Tournament presented by POWERade. Third-seeded Southern Miss survived a late rally by sixth-seeded USF to defeat the Bulls, 5-3, in game four of the tournament at Pete Taylor Park. The victory ensured the Golden Eagles' third-consecutive 40-win season, which sets a new school record. Southern Miss first baseman Brad Wilcutt went 2-for-2 with a pair of singles, two walks and a RBI.

Second-seeded TCU scored single runs in the seventh and eighth innings to defeat seventh-seeded Louisville, 4-2, in game three action. TCU’s win was also the first win by a two seed in the Conference USA Tournament since 1999, when Tulane won the 1999 Tournament as a two seed. Sam Demel (5-4) pitched his first career complete game for TCU, limiting Louisville to only three hits and two runs, while walking three and striking out nine. In the final game of the night, Southern Miss has a 3-1 lead over USF in the bottom of the eighth.

Top seeded Tulane scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, after UAB scored five in the top of the inning, to claim an 8-6 victory over the eighth seeded Blazers in game two. The Green Wave will face East Carolina at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.

The Pirates advanced after Brian Cavanaugh hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give No. 4 seed ECU a 6-5 win over No. 5 seed Houston in the opening game of the 2005 Conference USA Baseball Tournament presented by POWERade. It was Cavanaugh's fourth hit of the day as he led the Pirates (35-22) into Thursday's winners bracket. The loss marked just the second time in nine years that Houston failed to win its opening round C-USA Tournament game.
