Two USM Players Named to USA Today/Sports Weekly All-American Team

Two Southern Miss players, senior outfielder Ryan Frith and junior second baseman Jarrett Hoffpauir, were both named second-team members of the USA Today/Sports Weekly's All-America team, announced today by the publication. It marks the second straight year that Southern Miss has had at least two players named to an All-American team, with three different Golden Eagles earning All-American honors last season.

Frith, a first-team All-Conference USA selection, is a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy, signifying the top player in college baseball. He is currently hitting .345 with 13 doubles, 22 home runs and 61 RBIs. He has a .422 on-base percentage and has a .695 slugging percentage. He leads Conference USA in home runs and is among the top 10 leaders in the nation as well. He is among the top 10 leaders in Conference USA in slugging percentage, RBIs and total bases. He has 20 multiple-hit games and 16 multiple-RBI games. He was named Conference USA Hitter of the Week and National Hitter of the Week earlier this season.

Hoffpauir, a first-team All-Conference USA selection, is also a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy and the Golden Spikes Award, signifying the top player in college baseball. He is currently hitting a team-leading .398 with 25 doubles, two triples, eight home runs and 79 RBIs. He has a .432 on-base percentage and a .614 slugging percentage. He also has a team-high 11 sacrifice flies, has 29 multiple-hit games and 20 multiple-RBI games.

Hoffpauir leads Conference USA in RBIs and sacrifice hits and is among the top 10 in the nation in RBIs. He also is ranked among the top 10 leaders in Conference USA in batting average, slugging percentage, runs scored (57), hits (98), doubles and total bases. Hoffpauir only strikes out once in every 35 plate appearances, produces 1.36 RBIs per game and makes an error once every 60 fielding chances.

Southern Miss (42-16) advanced to the semifinals of the Conference USA Tournament on Saturday, May 29, at 9 a.m., at Cougar Field against UAB. The Golden Eagles have to defeat the Blazers twice to advance to the conference championship game on Sunday.
