A Record 32 C-USA Players Selected in MLB Draft

An all-time record of 32 Conference USA players, including East Carolina’s Ryan Jones and Greg Bunn, the league’s Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively, were selected in the 2004 major league baseball draft, which concluded Tuesday evening. Included were 13 selections in the first 10 rounds. Houston’s Garrett Mock was the first player chosen, going to the Arizona Diamondbacks early in the third round. Regular season champion East Carolina has produced the most selections with seven, while Houston had six and Southern Miss had five. Memphis and USF each produced four selections, while Tulane had three, TCU had two and Louisville had one player chosen. The St. Louis Cardinals chose the most C-USA players, selecting five standouts.
