RALEIGH, N.C. - The Coastal Plain League announced Monday that Martinsville's Jamie Ray and Asheboro's C.J. Zeigler were named the Rawlings Co-Hitters of the Week, while Columbia's David Anderson and Fayetteville's Luke Prihoda were tabbed Rawlings Co-Pitchers of the Week for week one of action (May 31 - June 11).

Ray, a sophomore at East Carolina, played in seven games (six starts) for the Mustangs during an eight-game span. He finished with a league-best .538 batting average with 14 hits, including three doubles and a triple. He also drove in five runs and scored six. Ray tallied 19 total bases to go with a .731 slugging percentage and a league-best .600 on-base percentage. Finally, he was also quick on his feet, going 4-of-6 on stolen base attempts thus far.

Meanwhile, Zeigler, a sophomore from Pima Community College, started all eight games for the Copperheads, finishing the week with a .393 average. He totaled 11 hits, including one double and a league-best six home runs. Zeigler notched 11 RBIs and 10 runs scored while sporting a league-best slugging percentage of 1.071 and racking up 30 total bases, another league best.

On the mound, Anderson made two appearances, both starts, for the Blowfish. The 6-6, 220-pound freshman from Coastal Carolina pitched 14 innings, surrendering only four hits and no runs to give him a 2-0 record and a perfect 0.00 ERA. Anderson also walked just two, while striking out nine opposing batters.

As for his counterpart on the mound, Prihoda was quite instrumental in relief for the SwampDogs. The 6-5, 235-pound junior from Sam Houston State, made five appearances on the week. He pitched six innings overall, allowing only three hits while walking one and striking out an impressive 15. Prihoda got the win against Outer Banks on June 2nd, and earned four saves in other games to go on to sport a 1-0 record and 0.00 ERA, as well as a tie for most saves in the league.

The Coastal Plain League is the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league, now in its 10th season. Featuring 15 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia, the CPL is certified by Major League Baseball, and gives college players the chance to refine their skills with wooden bats during the summer months. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts.
