Four Conference USA players have been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) All-American team, the organization announced on Tuesday. TCU junior righthander Lance Broadway and Southern Miss senior catcher Brad Willcutt were both named to the first team. Tulane pitcher/outfielder Brian Bogusevic and Southern Miss righthanded closer Daniel Best both earned a spot on the second team.

Broadway, the Conference USA Pitcher of the Year and one of four finalists for the Xanthus-Dick Howser Trophy, established school and conference records for victories with a nation-leading 15. The Grand Prairie, Texas native was 15-1 with a 1.62 ERA and struck out 151 batters with just 35 walks in 117 innings pitched. In C-USA play, he was 9-0 with a 1.66 ERA in 10 starts.

The TCU ace amassed two impressive streaks without allowing an earned run this season. The first lasted 36.2 innings and spanned seven appearances (six starts, one relief appearance) during which he struck out 52, walked six and allowed just 28 hits. The second streak lasted 25.2 innings and spanned four starts. He struck out 32, walked five and allowed 13 hits before allowing a run. Broadway closed out his season by allowing only two earned runs in his final 43.2 innings pitched, while helping TCU set a new school record for victories in a season (41).

Willcutt, the first team All-Conference USA catcher, earned a spot as the first team All-American catcher, as well. The Columbus, Miss., native led Southern Miss with 16 home runs, 21 doubles, 82 RBI and 149 total bases this season, helping Southern Miss to a 41-21 season, for the school’s third consecutive 40-win season (a school record). His 82 RBI leads Conference USA. Willcutt became USM’s career leader in runs (202) in the regular season finale and also owns the school record for doubles (72) and RBI (236). With 289 career hits, he closed his career just four short of the all-time record, held by Jeff Cook.

Bogusevic leads the top-ranked Green Wave in ERA (3.14), wins (12) and innings pitched (123.1), ranking second in strikeouts (123) and holding opponents to a .254 batting average. The Oak Lawn, Ill., native was named to the Conference USA All-Tournament team and has posted the second-highest single-season victory total in league history entering the College World Series. A two-way performer, Bogusevic was limited at the plate early in the season due to a hamstring injury, but is batting .328 with eight doubles and 22 RBI in 116 at-bats.

Best emerged as a dominant closer for the Golden Eagles this season, allowing just two earned runs in 39 innings pitched (0.46 ERA). He posted a record of 3-0 and saved 11 games over 30 appearances. Best struck out 37 batters and walked just seven, while holding opponents to a .229 batting average. This marks the third straight season that the Southern Miss closer has earned All-America honors, as Austin Tubb earned third team recognition in 2003 and first team honors last year.
