The honors keep rolling in for TCU junior right-handed pitcher Lance Broadway, who has been named one of three finalists for the Brooks Wallace Award given to the nation's top collegiate player by the College Baseball Foundation. The award will be presented in a nationally televised event on June 30 at 7 p.m. at the United Spirit Arena in Lubbock, Texas. The award ceremony will be shown in its entirety on Fox Sports Net Southwest, Monday, July 4 at 8 p.m.
Broadway has been arguably the top pitcher in college baseball this season, finishing his junior campaign with a school and Conference USA record 15 wins versus one loss. He compiled a 1.62 ERA in 117 innings pitched. He set a new single season school record with 151 strikeouts, while walking just 35 batters all year. He was named Conference USA Pitcher of the Year, thanks to a 9-0 record in league play and a 1.66 ERA in 10 starts.
Already named First-Team All-America by Louisville Slugger, the NCBWA and Second-Team by Sports Weekly, Broadway has also been named a finalist for the Xanthus-Dick Howser Trophy, given to the top player in college baseball. He is also a finalist for the Roger Clemens Award given to the top collegiate pitcher. Over the course of the season, the Conference USA Pitcher of the Year garnered NCBWA Pro-Line National Pitcher of the Week honors twice and the Conference USA Pitcher of the Week award four times.
Broadway is the only player in collegiate baseball to be a finalist for three major awards. The other finalists for the Brooks Wallace Award are Tennessee pitcher Luke Hochevar and Nebraska third baseman Alex Gordon.
