Former Pirate Chad Tracy Named To U.S. All-Star Futures Roster

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- When selecting a third baseman for the fourth annual RadioShack All-Star Futures Game to wear the U.S. uniform, Major League baseball, Minor League Baseball, and Baseball America needed look no further than El Paso, Texas and former East Carolina third baseman Chad Tracy.
Tracy, 23, was the seventh round draft choice of the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2001 First-Year Player Draft. He leads the Texas League in hitting with a .383 batting average, with four home runs and 42 runs driven in for the Double A El Paso Diablos this season.

The other third baseman on the Team USA roster is New York Yankees` prospect and former Michigan quarterback Drew Hensen.

Tracy becomes the first Pirate to garner All-Star Futures Game accolades.

In just three years at East Carolina, Tracy compiled a .339 batting average, 249 hits, 154 RBI, 48 doubles and 149 runs, ranking among the school`s career top 10 in all four categories.

The RadioShack All-Star Futures Game will feature the top U.S. and international Minor League prospects competing against each other as part of RadioShack All-Star Sunday, July 7 at Miller Park in Milwaukee. The game will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will be televised live on ESPN2.

“Now in its fourth year, this event continues to provide fans with a unique opportunity to see the brightest young stars from across the globe compete on the same field,” said Jimmie Lee Solomon, Senior Vice President, Baseball Operations for Major League Baseball. “The fact that last year`s Major League All-Star Teams featured two former Futures Game participants exhibits the exceptional talents of the players who compete in this game each year.”

The RadioShack All-Star Futures Game will end after seven innings (regardless of the score) and each pitcher on the roster will be limited to a maximum of one inning pitched. Players and coaches will be outfitted in special RadioShack All-Star Futures Game jerseys and will wear the caps of their Major League organization with a RadioShack All-Star Futures Game logo embroidered on the side. Six Minor League umpires will work the game.

Former Milwaukee Brewer and seven-time All-Star Paul Molitor will manage the U.S. Team, while nine-time All-Star Dave Concepcion will manage the World Team.
