Baseball America Honors Three C-USA Freshman All-Americans

  • BA All-Freshman Release

Conference USA Freshman of the Year Darryl Lawhorn was joined by a pair of South Florida rookies in receiving recognition from Baseball America on its Freshman All-America team, as announced by the publication on Tuesday. Lawhorn and USF catcher Devin Ivany were named first team Freshmen All-Americans, while Bulls’ second baseman Jeff Baisley was named to the second team.

Lawhorn, first team All-Conference USA performer as well as the league’s Freshman of the Year, finished his rookie campaign with a .416 batting average, 19 home runs and 68 RBI, while establishing ECU single season records for hits (104) and total bases (179). He is the first player in school history to collect 100 hits during a season.

Ivany was named to Conference USA’s All-Freshman team after batting .322 with 11 doubles. He tied for the team lead in home runs with 10 and drove in 56 runs, which ranked second on the club. Ivany started 41 games at catcher, 13 at DH and seven in left field, recording a .509 slugging percentage (second on USF) and throwing out 12 would-be base stealers. He was also third on the team with 14 multiple-RBI games and tied for third with 20 multiple-hit games. Ivany led USF at the NCAA Tallahassee Regional, hitting .467 in four games.

Baisley led USF and was eighth among Conference USA hitters with a .358 average while starting 62 games at third base. He led the Bulls with 63 RBI and tied at fourth among league run producers. He had a team-high 18 multiple-RBI games along with 23 multiple-hit games, the second-best figure on the team. Baisley was named second-team All-C-USA as well as to the C-USA All-Tournament Team and to the NCAA All-Tallahassee Regional Team.
