UAB
The Blazers finished the season at 28-32, which is an increase of six wins from 1999. UAB opened the Conference USA Tournament by posting a win over Tulane, the team's second straight win over the Green Wave after 14 straight losses to TU over a five-year period. Senior DH BRENT LAIRCEY finished with the team lead in doubles (11) and home runs (15) and was also named a GTE District IV Academic All-American. Senior OF WILL SMITH stole six bases at the C-USA Tournament to finish his career as the school and conference's single-season (55) and career (91) stolen base leader. With 164 steals as a team, the Blazers set a new C-USA record for team steals. Freshman OF MITCH JONES was 27-for-33 in stolen bases attempts on the year, batting .333 and had nine home runs to go along with 40 RBI. With 82 combined steals, Jones and Smith are the most prolific single-season base stealing duo in school history. Junior 3B KEITH BARNES set new school and conference records for sacrifices in a season with 17 (15 sacrifice hits, 2 sacrifice flies).
CINCINNATI
The Bearcats posted a school-record 35 wins, improving its victory total for the fourth straight season under head coach BRIAN CLEARY. The 35 wins also gave Cincinnati back-to-back seasons with 30 wins for the first time in the school's 116-year history. The Bearcats defeated UAB twice and Southern Miss once to reach the championship game of the Conference USA Tournament. It was the school's first trip to a tournament final since reaching the Great Midwest Conference championship game in 1995. Junior OF MATT SINGER is the school's all-time leader in doubles (54), home runs (40) and RBI (177). With 19 homers this season, junior 3B KEVIN YOUKILIS has broken Singer's single-season home run record. Fourty-one of Youkilis' 77 hits were for extra bases, as he also had 21 doubles to go with one triple. Youkilis and junior 1B CRAIG TEWES have started all 172 games of their Bearcat careers, while Singer has started all but one. Junior LHP CURTUS MOAK earned all-tournament honors after posting a 0.90 ERA in three appearances, while becoming just the second pitcher in tournament history to post two wins in a tournament. Moak finished the season at 7-3 with an ERA of 1.54 and 9 saves.
HOUSTON
The Cougars became the first C-USA team to advance to the NCAA Super Regional. UH defeated Princeton, 7-6 on May 26, before beating cross-town rival Rice twice in 24 hours to win the Houston Regional. The regional drew 22,409 fans to Cougar Field (3,201 per game), including a record crowd of 4,519 to Saturday's UH-Rice game. Houston's run to the College World Series fell just short when it lost to San Jose State two games to one in the Super Regional at Cougar Field. UH's 48 victories this season set a new school record and the Cougars 21-4 league record was the best in C-USA history. Senior LHP SHANE NANCE, who finished 9-2 on the year, closed out his career with a school record 32 victories, including five in postseason play. C-USA Tournament MVP and first team All-Conference catcher JARROD BITTER recorded 28 games with two or more hits, to go along with 17 multiple-RBI outings. Junior RHP KYLE CROWELL, the two-time Conference USA Pitcher of the Year, was 13-3 with a 2.86 ERA in 19 starts. He fanned 117 batters and walked only 27 in 138 1/3 innings on the season, holding opposing hitters to a composite .229 batting average. He is also the first UH hurler to post back-to-back seasons with at least 11 wins.
LOUISVILLE
Senior RHP BRIAN BENTLEY closed out his career as U of L's all-time leader in starts (45), wins (22) and strikeouts (243), while placing second in innings pitched (308 1/3). Senior RHP TODD RAITHEL leaves Louisville as the all-time leader in appearances (80) and he also ranked second in saves (14). Junior OF MIKE HOOK stole a pair of bases at the conference tournament to finish with 29 on the year, one short of the Cardinals single-season record. He now has 54 career stolen bases, which places him second on the on the school's all-time list. Outfielder DAVE WILLIAMS, JR. earned a spot on the All-Freshman team after hitting .286 with six doubles in 27 games (he missed 15 games due to injuries). Every player on the Louisville roster started at least 14 games this season.
MEMPHIS
Versatile senior NATE SAMS, who started at several different positions throughout the season, finished with the team lead in home runs for the second straight season with 10. He also led the squad in most other offensive categories, including batting (.305), hits (50), doubles (11), triples (2), RBI (41) and slugging percentage (.579). Sams was rewared for his efforts by being named second team All-Conference USA. Junior RHP JASON WIEDMEYER finished tied for the team lead in victories with four while striking out a team-best 61 strikeouts. The 190 walks allowed by Memphis pitchers was the third-lowest total in C-USA this season.
UNC CHARLOTTE
The 49ers became the first team in Conference USA Tournament history to throw three complete games, as junior RHP BRION TREADWAY, senior RHP RYAN BAKER and freshman RHP JOHN MAINE each went the distance. After winning against South Florida and Houston, UNCC was eliminated with back-to-back losses to No. 6 Houston. Treadway (11-4) is just the third player in school history to record more than 100 strikeouts in a season (he had 114). Baker (11-5) also went over the 100 strikeout mark for the season. Baker finished with 106 K's, making Treadway and him the first teammates in school and conference history to post 10 wins in a single season as well as record more than 100 K's. Senior RHP JOHN McKAY has recorded a school-record 11 saves on the year, which ranked him among the national leaders. With 77 K's, he was the only relief pitcher that ranked in C-USA's top 10 in strikeouts. Outfielder MIKE TAYLOR was named Conference USA Freshman of the Year after hitting a team-best .366, the second-highest average by a freshman in school history. Freshman 1B BRAD ERWIN had 16 multiple hit games on the year and finished second on the team in batting at .329.
SAINT LOUIS
The Billikens closed out the regular season this past weekend with one win against UAB to match last season's overall victory total. SLU was remarkably closes in many of those defeats, dropping a total of 16 games by two runs or less. Junior 2B NICK STEINER had a team-high five hits in the UAB series to finish tied with junior 1B JIM BREDENKOETTER for the club lead in batting at .340. Steiner clubbed a squad-best 11 home runs, while Bredenkoetter had team-highs of 13 doubles and 46 RBI. The Billikens have laid down a conference-high 50 sacrifice bunts this season. SLU's 92 stolen bases rank as the third-highest total in C-USA this season. The Billikens team ERA of 5.94 ranked as the school's lowest since the 1993 season.
SOUTH FLORIDA
DANIEL BOYD hit .538 (7-13) in three games at the C-USA Tournament and was named to the All-Tournament Team. The junior 1B is listed on six USF career all-time top 10 lists, including No. 1 on the hit by pitch list (47), No. 3 on the home runs list (35), No. 5 on the RBI list (161), No. 6 on the doubles list (43) and the runs scored list (160) and No. 7 on the hits (222). All-C-USA third baseman MIKE EYLWARD joined Boyd on the All-C-USA first-team as well as on three career hitting lists. Eylward is No. 3 on the RBI list (170), No. 5 on the home run list (33) and No. 6 on the doubles list (43). Right-handers JOHN VIGUE, a junior, and JOHN GORHAM, a sophomore, accounted for 20 of USF's 29 victories, each winning 10 games. This was the first season since 1996 that the Bulls had a pair of 10-game winners (Scott Glaser, 12, and Mark Roberts, 11). Vigue and Gorham are tied with six others on the single-season list at No. 5. Gorham's 114 1/3 innings pitched rank No. 9 on the single-season list and his 92 strikeouts rank No. 11. DAVID RICHTBERG'S seven saves are the most at USF since 1997 and rank No. 10 on the USF single-season list. JOHNNY RABURN'S 58 walks rank No. 3 on the USF single-season list and his 126 career walks rank No. 7. The Bulls stole 104 bases on the year, the fifth most ever in a single-season at USF. As a team, USF hit .309, the eighth-best team batting average ever. Mike Cunningham hit .338 -- the fourth-highest average in the lineup -- and was named to the C-USA All-Freshman Team. The Bulls have placed at least one player on the All-Freshman team for five straight seasons.
SOUTHERN MISS
The Golden Eagles finished the season at 32-26, the program's 14th straight winning season and the 14th year in a row that USM has won at least 30 games. Senior OF JOSH HOFFPAUIR raised his batting average nearly 40 points over the last three weeks of the season, finishing at .333 with 12 doubles and eight home runs. With 18 home runs this season, junior OF DUSTY HALEY moved into eighth place on the school's career home run list with 34. Senior C CHRIS FINNEGAN finished tied with sophomore C/DH DARREN WELCH for the team hitting lead at .365. Finnegan had a team-high 58 RBI and finished second on the club in doubles (15) and home runs (11), while Welch paced Conference USA in doubles with 23 and drove in 50 runs. LHP SHEA DOUGLAS earned a spot on the C-USA All-Freshman team after going 6-4 with strikeouts over 80 innings pitched. In league play, he had 61 K's in 58 1/3 innings pitched. As a team, USM ranked third in C-USA in ERA (4.70) and second in strikeouts (414).
TULANE
The Green Wave made its third straight NCAA appearance, posting a win over South Alabama, but TU was eliminated due to a pair of losses to Notre Dame. Tulane finished the conference season as the first C-USA team to win each of its league series. Third baseman JAKE GAUTREAU became the first sophomore in league history to win Player of the Year honors. Gautreau was the team's triple crown leader, pacing the club in hitting (.388), home runs (16) and RBI (68). Sophomore 2B JAMES JURRIES batted a league-best .448 in Conference USA play and recorded all 12 of his home runs in league action. He finished the season at .338 overall and has 20 doubles and 51 RBI. Senior LHP JARED BERKOWITZ leaves Tulane holding the school records for victories (38), games started (59) and innings pitched (414n 1/3). This season he was 12-4 with a 3.53 ERA and 95 strikeouts. Berkowitz is the only pitcher in Tulane history to post 12-plus wins in back-to-back seasons.

DYNAMIC DUO
This past weekend at Louisville, UNC Charlotte senior RHP RYAN BAKER posted his 10th win of the season while going over the 100 strikeout mark for the season, something that junior teammate BRION TREADWAY had accomplished the previous weekend. Two other tandems had recorded 10 or more wins in the same season and one duo had recorded more than 100 K's in a season, but Baker and Treadway are the first teammates to accomplish it in the same season. The 2000 Conference USA baseball championship was held May 17-21 in St. Petersburg, Fla. The games were played at Florida Power Park, the spring training home of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and the regular season home of the Florida State League's St. Petersburg Devil Rays. The University of South Florida served as the host institution for the tournament. The championship game of the tournament between Cincinnati and Houston on May 21 was nationally-televised by affiliates of Fox Sports Net.
