Tulane's Aubrey Hits Two Homers to Lead Team USA to Win
KEENE, NEW HAMPSHIRE - Michael Aubrey (IF, So, Tulane) tied the USA Baseball National Team record by hitting two home runs in a game, and righthander Brad Sullivan (RHP, So, Houston) notched his third consecutive victory by allowing just one run over seven innings, as Team USA defeated the Keene Swamp Bats, 7-1 Tuesday night at Alumni Field.
The Tulane infielder extended his Team USA hitting streak to seven games while collecting a season-high five RBI. Meanwhile, Sullivan improved his record to 3-0 by striking out 11 and walked only one, surrendering only a solo home run to Trey Hendricks in the seventh inning.
Aubrey put Team USA on the scoreboard early, as he ripped a two-run shot to right field off Keene starter David Austen, in the top of the first. Then with two outs in the second, he launched a three-run blast deep over the right field wall, that gave the Red, White and Blue a 5-0 advantage.
It stayed that way until the fifth, when Team USA tacked on two more runs. Conor Jackson (IF, So, California) doubled home Carlos Quentin (OF, So, Stanford) with one out, and Sam Fuld (OF, So, Stanford) picked up Jackson with an infield ground out, making it 7-0.
The USA Baseball National Team is now 10-2 overall on the 2002 Red, White and Blue Tour. Team USA will have Wednesday off before returning to action Thursday evening, July 11 in Newport, Rhode Island, as they take on the Newport Gulls in their final game against the New England Collegiate League. Game time is set for 6:35 pm at historic Cardines Field in Newport. Kyle Bakker (LHP, So, Georgia Tech) will get the ball for Team USA.
