It was a good night for the home team as all six playing the front of their home crowds added to their win totals. Southern Miss and Memphis held onto their top spot in the C-USA standings with wins over UCF and UAB, respectively. Tulsa head coach Doug Wojcik led the Golden Hurricane to a 72-48 victory over Houston for this 138th win at the head of the program, breaking Clarence Iba's record to become the winningest head coach in school history. Sophomore PG Jordan Clarkson led TU with 21 points for his 22nd game in a row in double-figures. Rice junior Arsalan Kazemi had his own record-setting night as he registered his 42nd career double-double, tying former Memphis player Kelly Wise for the most in C-USA history.
All 12 Conference USA men's basketball teams are back in action, beginning Saturday afternoon in Hattiesburg, Miss. Southern Miss, currently ranked No. 11 in the RPI and receiving votes in both national polls, is looking to rebound from a loss on the road at UAB Wednesday. The Golden Eagles (20-4, 7-2 C-USA) will have a challenge to their perfect 11-0 record at Reed Green Coliseum as a tough UCF (18-6, 7-3) team visits for a 4 p.m. CST tip.
Memphis moved back into a tie for first place in the C-USA standings as the Tigers defeated East Carolina on the road, 70-59. Memphis also got some help from rival UAB as the Blazers knocked off Southern Miss, 71-61, with a 27-point, 12-rebound performance from reigning C-USA Player of the Week Cameron Moore. UTEP snapped Tulsa's seven-game win streak and the Miners' own four-game skid with a 64-55 win over TU at the Don Haskins Center.
Another full night of midweek games is on the schedule for Wednesday, with four televised contests. A total of five conference games are slated along with SMU playing host to TCU. Tulsa visits UTEP for a 9 p.m. EST and 7 p.m. MST local tip on CBS Sports Network.
