IRVING, Texas - After leading No. 6 Memphis to its second straight Conference USA title, junior Joey Dorsey and sophomore Chris Douglas-Roberts were named to the 2007 Conference USA First Team. The Tiger duo is joined on the first team by senior Morris Almond of Rice and juniors Paul Delaney III of UAB and Robert McKiver of Houston, as voted by the league's 12 head coaches and select media.
Dorsey leads the Tigers, as well as the league, in rebounding (9.5 rpg), field goal percentage (.644) and ranks second in C-USA in blocked shots (2.5 bpg). Douglas-Roberts averages 15.3 points per game and was named C-USA Player of the Week on two occasions this season (Dec. 18 and Feb. 26).
Almond leads the league and ranks third nationally, averaging 26.6 points per game for the Owls. In Rice's regular season finale March 3, he set the Conference USA single season scoring record with 772 points. The 6-6 guard, one of 30 players selected as a midseason finalist for the John R. Wooden All-America Team, currently ranks fourth on Rice's all-time scoring chart with 1,753 career points.
Delaney III is fifth in the league in scoring with 15.7 points per contest this season and added 5.13 assists per game. Both totals lead the Blazers. McKiver, who leads C-USA in minutes played at more than 37 per game, ranks No. 2 in scoring behind Almond at with a 19.1 per game average. He also knocked down a league-best 3.6 three-pointers per game.
Memphis senior Jeremy Hunt headlines the all-conference second team and carries a 14.1 ppg scoring average. Jeremy Wise, who earlier this year set the Southern Miss single-season freshman scoring record, also grabbed second team honors and was joined by sophomore Stefon Jackson of UTEP. Houston senior Oliver Lafayette repeated his selection on the second team and senior Josh Peppers of UCF rounds out the squad.
Five different schools were also represented on the all-conference third team. Senior forwards Ike Ofoegbu of SMU and Wen Mukubu of UAB were joined by juniors David Gomez of Tulane and Rod Earls of Tulsa and Marshall sophomore Markel Humphrey on the third team.
