Memphis, ranked fifth in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll, improved to 28-3 overall and advance to Friday's semifinals to face the winner of the Houston/UCF quarterfinal. The Tigers have now won 17 of their last 18 games.
The Tigers opened the game with a 9-0 run and forced six Green Wave turnovers in the first three minutes of the contest. Memphis never trailed in the contest.
Memphis connected on seven three point field goals (7-17) and forced 20 Tulane turnovers in the first half to build a 47-19 halftime lead.
The Tigers netted 11 three point field goals in the contest (11-28 for 39.3%). Tulane hit 7-of-16 three attempts (43.8%).
Memphis standout Rodney Carney led the Tigers with 18 points, while Darius Washington and Shawne Williams added 15 and 13 points, respectively.
Memphis played 14 different players in the contest and had 10 different players score. The UM bench out-scored its Tulane counterparts 25 to 2.
Tulane (12-17) held the Tigers scoreless for just over seven minutes in the second half and scored 17 consecutive points.
Green Wave guard Chris Moore finished the contest with a team-high 21 points. The junior also pulled down a game high nine rebounds. Tulane's Quincy Davis added 19 points and eight rebounds.
Memphis forced a total of 27 Tulane turnovers, while turning the ball over only 14 times. The Tigers also recorded 13 steals.
