The National Invitation Tournament (NIT) has informed TCU that the Horned Frogs (21-13) will play a road game in the quarterfinal round of the NIT on Saturday, Mar. 26 against the winner of Wednesday night's game between Maryland (17-12) and Davidson (23-8). Saturday's game will tip off at Noon (ET)/11 a.m. (CT) and will be televised nationally on either ESPN or ESPN2.
This will be the third straight road game in the NIT for the Horned Frogs, who advanced to the quarterfinals by virtue of a thrilling 78-76 overtime triumph at Western Michigan on Monday night. Last Wednesday, the Frogs downed Miami (Ohio) by a 60-58 count in Oxford, Ohio.
"We are very excited to advance to the third round of the NIT," said TCU Athletics Director Eric Hyman. "To win in two challenging environments like we have at Miami and at Western Michigan is a huge credit to our student-athletes and our coaching staff. It is disappointing not to get a home game, but the NIT makes its decisions based on several factors, including RPI, arena size and past attendance figures. We are a program that is on the rise," continued Hyman, "but we need to keep it going, both on the court and in the stands. We need to take this momentum into next year and have the TCU and Fort Worth communities really support the team."
This marks the sixth all-time appearance in the NIT for TCU, who owns a 9-5 record in the tournament to date. This is the 15th NIT game for TCU and the 11th time that the team has been selected to play on the road. With last night's win, TCU reached the tourney's quarterfinals for the third time. The Frogs are looking to advance to the semifinals for the first time in school history.
The semifinal round is slated for Tuesday, Mar. 29, while the championship and consolation games will be Thursday, Mar. 31. Each of those games will be played at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
