SLU's Romar Resigns to Take Over at Washington
St. Louis, Mo. - Saint Louis University head men's basketball coach Lorenzo Romar resigned Wednesday to assume the same duties at the University of Washington. Billikens director of athletics Doug Woolard announced that a national search will begin immediately.
"We believe that Coach Romar has our program positioned for success next season and beyond in Conference USA," Woolard said. "We will act as quickly as possible to identify the right person to keep this program moving toward the upper level of Conference USA."
Romar just completed his third season by leading the Billikens (15-16 overall, 9-7 in C-USA) to a fifth-place overall finish in Conference USA. His three-year record with the Billikens was 51-44 (.537) and included a C-USA Tournament championship in 2000 and the league's automatic NCAA Tournament bid. Romar's five-year career record was 93-88 (.514).
