Louisville's Reece Gaines Named to CLASS Award All-America Second Team

Reece Gaines

Louisville guard Reece Gaines was selected as a Senior CLASS Award Second Team All-American. The 6-6 Madison, Wis., native was the only Conference USA player honored as one of the Top 10 senior players in collegiate basketball this season.

The Senior CLASS Award – an acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School – was launched during the 2001-02 season in response to the recent trend of college basketball players leaving college early to turn professional.

Gaines, also was a third team All-American by the Associated Press and a first team All-Conference USA pick after leading the Cardinals to a 25-7 record, the Conference USA Tournament title and their first NCAA Tounament berth since 2000.

During Louisville's 25-win season, the Cardinals put together a 17-game winning streak which included wins over SEC champion Kentucky and Indiana.

Also in his final season at U of L, Gaines averaged 17.9 points and five assists a contest. He concludes his Cardinal career as the No. 3 scorer in league history with 1,945 points.

This year's men's individual award went to Xavier's David West, while the women's accolade was presented to Mississippi State's LaToya Thomas.
