HOUSTON - Rice University basketball coach Ben Braun has announced the addition of Louis Reynaud and Mike Roberts to the Owl coaching staff. He also announced that Brent Scott, who joined the Rice coaching staff last year, will continue in his role as an assistant coach.

Both Reynaud and Roberts were on Braun's staff at the University of California.

Reynaud will serve as associate head coach at Rice. He was a member of the Cal coaching staff for 11 seasons, serving the past six years as associate head coach for the Golden Bears.

"Louis has been highly successful at both the high school and collegiate levels," Braun said. "He was instrumental in helping turn around the Cal basketball program."

Prior to joining Braun's staff at Cal, Reynaud compiled an 84-31 record as the head basketball coach at De La Salle High School. He led the school to league titles in 1994 and 1996 and was twice named the Bay Valley Athletic League Coach of the Year. Reynaud's 1996 team captured the Division I NorCal championship and finished second in the state, earning a No. 1 ranking in the Bay Area for the first time in school history.

Reynaud's first head coaching position was at St. Patrick-St. Vincent High School in Vallejo, Calif., from 1990-93. In three seasons the school was 69-39, posted three, 20-win seasons and captured one Sac-Joaquin Sectional title. From 1986-90, Reynaud served as assistant varsity basketball coach at De La Salle High School.

In 1997, Reynaud was selected as head coach of the West Squad at the Magic Johnson Round Ball Classic for high school All-Americans and he directed the prestigious ABCD summer camp for five years.

In addition to his coaching experience, Reynaud served as Dean of Students at both St. Patrick-St. Vincent and De La Salle High Schools.

Reynaud received his bachelor's degree from San Francisco State in 1982 and a master's degree in health/physical education from Saint Mary's College in 1995. Reynaud and his wife, Cheryl, have one daughter, Lauren.

Roberts was on Braun's staff at Cal for the past two years. After serving as video coordinator for the 2006-07 season, Roberts was an assistant coach this past season.

This past season at Cal, Roberts was responsible for overseeing the team's academic program and recruiting as well as scouting and game preparation in addition to on-floor coaching. As video coordinator, Roberts was involved in game preparation, self scouting, game film breakdown and other administrative duties.

Prior to his two seasons in Berkeley, Roberts played at Indiana, graduating in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in history with a certificate in management, then served one season a graduate assistant coach at Texas Tech.

"Having played at Indiana and worked with Bob Knight at Texas Tech, Mike brings valuable experience to our program," Braun said.

As an undergraduate at Indiana, Roberts helped Indiana to three NCAA Tournaments, including a national runner-up finish in 2002, as well as one NIT appearance. A two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and recipient of a Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, he served as team captain as a senior in 2004-05.

At Texas Tech, Roberts aided the coaching staff in practices, supervised academic progress of the players and was an analyst for Texas Tech radio and television broadcasts. He also participated in the 2006 ESPN production "Knight School," in which the Texas Tech coaching staff evaluated 16 walk-ons who vied for one spot on the Red Raiders' roster.

Scott returned to Rice as an assistant coach for the 2007-08 season, following a 14-year professional career which included a season with the Indiana Pacers as well as 13 years playing for First Division-level European teams.

He was a member of Real Madrid's 2000 Spanish National Championship team and was a four-time all-star for European teams.

Scott ranks second in all-time scoring and rebounding at Rice (1989-93). During his collegiate career he was a member of the U.S. Junior National Team that won the gold medal at the 1991 World Junior Championships.

"Brent has been a staple to the Rice basketball program," Braun said. "I have known Brent since his high school career, having recruited him. His experience as both a standout player at Rice and more recently as an assistant coach will be invaluable."

Scott earned his bachelor's degree in kinesiology from Rice in 2003. He and his wife, Brooke, have two daughters, Brekayla and Berklee.
