Former USF Player Altron Jackson Invited To Play For San Antonio Spurs

TAMPA, FL – Former University of South Florida men’s basketball standout Altron Jackson (Sarasota, FL) has been invited by the San Antonio Spurs to play for its summer league team in the Shaw Summer Pro League in Boston, MA.

Jackson finished his stellar four-year career in the “Green and Gold” as the all-time leading scorer in Conference USA history, with 2,017 points which is also good enough for second on USF’s all-time scoring ledger behind Charlie Bradley (1981-85, 2,319 pts.). A three-time All-C-USA selection and a two-time C-USA Sixth Man of the Year, Jackson also finished his career with 181 career steals, third on the all-time school list and sixth in the league. He averaged 16.5 points for his career and recorded double figure points in 100-of-122 career games and in 86-of-94 games in the last three seasons. His 122 career games played is also a school record.

“It is obviously a tremendous honor for Altron Jackson to get invited to camp with the San Antonio Spurs,” said USF head basketball coach Seth Greenberg. Not getting drafted in last weeks NBA draft doesn’t mean that Altron doesn’t have the potential to play in the NBA, it just means that he wasn’t one of the 58 players chosen.”

Greenberg added, “San Antonio is one of the elite organizations in the NBA and will potentially have roster spots available for the upcoming season. It’s up to Altron to go into the summer league, and camp, and play hard and up to his potential. It’s a great opportunity with a great organization and head coach in Gregg Popovich.”

The 10-team league takes place at the University of Massachusetts-Boston and runs from July 15-21. In addition to the Spurs, other teams taking part in the league are the Washington Wizards, Milwaukee Bucks, Orlando Magic, New Jersey Nets, New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers, Atlanta Hawks, Boston Celtics, and Minnesota Timberwolves.
