Nickelberry Resigns From 49ers Men's Basketball Staff

Charlotte 49ers assistant men's basketball coach Kevin Nickelberry has resigned in order to accept a position at Clemson University. Nickelberry has been an assistant coach for Bobby Lutz for two years.

"I'll always remember my time with the 49ers," Nickelberry said. "It's been a pleasure to work for a great coach. The present is very bright for 49ers basketball and I'm excited for them. I'm also excited about the opportunity to leave one great coach to work with another and one that I've known for over 15 years."

"We wish Kevin the best in his new situation," said 49ers head coach Bobby Lutz. "I appreciate all that he's done for us during his time here at Charlotte. We've always known that Kevin's goal is to become a head coach and hopefully this will help him reach it."

Nickelberry was hired by Lutz in April of 2001 after serving as an assistant and associate head coach to Ralph Willard at Holy Cross. "I've been blessed in that I will have been able to work for three great coaches," Nickelberry added. "I want to thank Bobby, (Director of Athletics) Judy (Rose) and the 49er family for affording me this
opportunity. I learned a lot and became a better coach because of my relationship with 49ers basketball."

A search for Nickelberry's replacement will begin immediately.
