USF and UCF Agree To Two-Year Football Series

The University of South Florida and UCF have signed a contract to play a two-game football series in 2005 and 2006, the two schools announced jointly today. The contract also calls for the schools to continue to discuss potential games beyond 2006.

The series will begin September 17, 2005 in Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, followed by a September 16, 2006 game in the Citrus Bowl in Orlando.

“The timing is right to get this series started,” says USF Director of Athletics Lee Roy Selmon. “While we have a lot of football to be excited about at USF in the two years before the series starts – including our historic first season in Conference USA - we hope that when 2005 and 2006 arrive, the games will present a an exciting college football atmosphere for fans from both universities to get excited about.”

The 2005 game is the second non-conference game announced for USF that season. The Bulls will play at Penn State September 3. USF also has future games scheduled at Florida in 2008 and 2009.

USF enters its seventh season of football in 2003 and it’s first in Conference USA. The Bulls were 9-2 in 2002 and they have a 44-22 record through their first six seasons. USF opens its 2003 season August 30 against Alabama at Legion Field in Birmingham.
