USM's Boley Named Lindy's Second Team Preseason All-American
Southern Miss senior linebacker Michael Boley has been named to his second preseason All-America team, this time as a member of the Lindy's Sports All-America Second Team.
Boley also was named a preseason first team All-American by Athlon Sports, one of America’s premier sports annuals, last week. The Athens, Ala., is the second consecutive Southern Miss linebacker to earn All-America honors, joining Rod Davis, now a member of the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings. Boley also was selected as a 2004 preseason All-American by NationalChamps.net.
Boley led Conference USA and finished seventh in the nation in tackles for loss last season with 22.5, while registering 151 total tackles (13th in the country). It was his second straight year with more than 100 tackles. He is a two-time first team All-Conference USA selection that has produced 18 sacks and 37.5 tackles for loss over the past two seasons.
Last season's performance helped garner Boley All-America honors by CollegeFootballNews.com and he was selected as the C-USA Defensive Player of the Year by the same web site.
The Golden Eagles, which finished with a 9-4 record and the Conference USA championship last season, open the 2004 regular season on Sept. 11 at Nebraska.
