Memphis Football Loses Top Receiver

MEMPHIS, TENN. - University of Memphis senior receiver Tavares Gideon will miss the 2003 football season after suffering a torn anterior cruciate in his left knee. Dr. Barney Freeman performed the successful surgery, and athletic trainer Eddie Cantler will guide Gideon through his rehabilitation.

Gideon, who was Memphis' second-leading receiver last season with 42 receptions and eight touchdowns, still has a redshirt season available, and is expected to be back in action for the 2004 season.
