Tulsa Men Golfers Place at The Maxwell

Ardmore, Oklahoma - The Tulsa men's golf team closed out he 2008 campaign with a seventh-place performance in a field of 10 teams at The Maxwell on Sunday afternoon. The Hurricane carded a final round 282 and finished the 54-hole event at the par-70 Dornick Hills Country Club with an eight-under par 832 score. Oklahoma State overtook second round leader Michigan to grab the team title as the Cowboys fired a final round 269 for a 31-under par 809 score, while Michigan finished at 28-under par with an 812 score. Wichita State (819), Oklahoma City (821) and Middle Tennessee State (823) rounded out the top-five teams. Tulsa junior Nicolas Geyger fired an even-par 70 on Sunday and finished the tournament with a one-over par 211. His seventh-place finish is his fifth top-10 performance of the season. Fellow junior Rob Laird finished in 21st place with a final round two-over par 72 to finish the event with a six-over par 216 total. Junior Ryan Brooks placed 32nd overall with a nine-over par 219 score after equaling his best round of the tournament with a 72. Freshman Philip Reiser and Ville Vaisanen finished in 52nd and 55th place, respectively. Reiser had a 75 today for a 226 total, while Vaisanen finished with a round of 79 for a three-round total of 229. Michigan's Bill Rankin held on to win individual medalist honors with a round of 69 today for an eight-under par total of 202. He finished four strokes ahead of second-place Kevin Tway of Oklahoma State, who carded an even-par 70 and finished with a four-under par 206.
