Houston's Jordan Irwin Closes Out 2007 Season At NCAA Division I Men's Golf Central Regional Championships

Sugar Grove, Ill. - University of Houston junior Jordan Irwin closed out the 2007 season at the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Central Regional Championship with a 10-over-par 82 in the third and final round at the Rich Harvest Farms. The 10-over-par score placed Irwin in a tie for 64th place overall after shooting 18-over-par (234) throughout the tournament. Irwin began the final round on the 10th hole and finished with a four bogies on the first nine holes. He began the second nine with a double-bogie on No. 1, but made a pair of birdies on No. 2 and No. 4. After making a par 4 on the fifth hole, Irwin sandwiched a pair of bogies around a double bogie before finishing the third round with a birdie on the No. 9 Par 5 hole. Tulsa won the team title with a score of 895, three strokes ahead of Alabama and four strokes ahead of Louisville. Lamar finished in fourth place with a score of 900, and Tennessee had a score of 904 to finish in fifth place. Oklahoma State finished in sixth place with a score of 906, while Texas Tech was seventh, one shot back. Michigan State finished in eighth place with a 915 team score, Texas finished in ninth place, one shot back and Minnesota (918) rounds out the top 10 teams. The Golden Gophers edged Texas A&M (918) in a one-hole playoff to earn the final berth into the 2007 NCAA Championships. The rest of the teams included Wisconsin (919), Northwestern (920), Illinois State (924), Southeastern Louisiana (925), Wichita State (930), Western Illinois (930), Baylor (937), Purdue (939), Colorado (940), Oklahoma State (943), Nebraska (943), SMU (945), Kansas (947), TCU (957), Siena (997) and Texas Southern (1,029). Lamar's Dawie Van Der Walt and Wisconsin's Dan Woltman shared the individual title at one-under-par (215), followed by Western Illinois' Tim Streng (+3, 219), Xavier's Jason Kokrak and Alabama's Michael Thompson, who both tied for fourth (+4, 220). In addition to the top 10 teams, Streng and Woltman each earned the automatic berth into the NCAA Championships as individual players.
