Tulsa Golfers Fall After Two Rounds at the NCAA Championships

Williamsburg, Virginia - The Tulsa men's golf team fell 10 spots from 12th to 22nd place after second round action at the NCAA Championships on Thursday. The Hurricane carded a second day total of 11-over par 291 and has a 575 total heading into tomorrow's all-important cutoff round at the par-70 Golden Horseshoe Gold Course The tournament field will be cut to 15 teams following Friday's third round. Despite the fall, Tulsa will enter Friday's round just five strokes out of 15th place, eight strokes from 10th place and 13 strokes away from fifth-place. Stanford, the nation's second-ranked team, continues to lead the field after 36 holes with a 553 total following a two-under par round of 278 on Thursday. Minnesota (554), Coastal Carolina (558), East Tennessee State (560) and Charlotte (562) round out the top-five teams. Rounding out spots 6 through 10 are Georgia Tech and UCLA (563) in a sixth-place tie, Oklahoma State and Texas (566) tied for eighth place and Alabama (567) in 10th place. Tulsa senior Brett Myers turned in the best round of the day for the Hurricane with a two-under par 68 for a one-under par total of 139. Myers sits in 14th place overall after dropping in birdies on holes 4, 6, the two par-3's on the back nine of holes 12 and 16 and on the par-4 18thhole Seniors Sam Korbe and Ryan Henry had the next best rounds for the Hurricane with identical four-over par 74s. Henry has a three-over par 143 total for 58th place, while Korbe is in 102nd place with a six-over par 146 score. Senior Mitch Cohlmia had a six-over par 76 and is tied for 120th with a 148 total, while sophomore Nicolas Geyger is one stroke back at 149 for 126th place after shooting a five-over par 75 today.
Individually, Minnesota's Bronson LaCassie took over the lead with a four-under par 66 today and leads by one stroke with a seven-under par 133.
