Tulsa Golfers Terrific Season Ends at NCAA Championships

Williamsburg, Virginia - The Tulsa men's golf team carded a third round of four-over par 284 at the par-70 Golden Horseshoe Gold Course on Friday, but missed the 15-team cut at the NCAA Championships. The Hurricane tied its best round of the tournament today and finished the 54 holes with a score of 19-over par 858 for 25th place. Nonetheless, Tulsa turned in a solid season with four tournament victories, including a Conference USA Championship and the NCAA Central Region Championship. The nation's second-ranked Stanford Cardinal continues to lead the field with a 12-under par 828 after today's round of 275. Eleventh-ranked Coastal Carolina is two strokes back in second place after shooting an eight-under round of 272 today for a 54-hole total of 830 Charlotte and Alabama (838) are tied for third place, while No.1 -ranked Georgia is in fifth place at 840. Rounding out the top-15 teams were Georgia Tech (843), seventh-place UCLA (846), Minnesota and Florida (848), Duke and South Carolina (849), while Lamar and Texas tied for 12th place with 850 totals. Oklahoma State, Tennessee and Florida State were in a play-off at the end of the round to decide the final two spots, as OSU and Florida State advanced. OSU shot two-under par on the playoff hole, while Florida State turned in a one-under par score. Tulsa, teeing off on hole 10 to start the round, had a shaky beginning as the Hurricane combined to shoot six-over par. The Hurricane settled down and went seven-under par through the next eight holes to pull to two-under par after the first nine holes. Senior Brett Myers carded the best round of the day for Tulsa with a one-under par 69 and finished the tournament in 14th place with a two-under par total of 208. Myers was one-under par after his first nine holes and maintained that score by shooting even-par on the back side with two birdies and two bogeys.
Fellow senior Ryan Henry and sophomore Nicolas Geyger each carded one-over par rounds of 71 today. Henry finished in 64th place with a four-over par 214 total. Geyger placed 116th overall with a score of 10-over par 220 to tie with teammate Sam Korbe, who carded a round of 74 today. Senior Mitch Cohlmia finished in 124th place with an 11-over score of 221 after today's three-over score of 73. There's a three-way tie in the individual race as Stanford's Rob Grube, Clemson's Kyle Stanley and Georgia Tech's Cameron Tringale have six-under par 204 totals heading into final round competition on Saturday.
