Brugues, Korbe Earn Academic Honors
May 24, 2007 Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa men's tennis player Arnau Brugues and men's golfer Sam Korbe have been selected as ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honorees, with Brugues earning first team recognition and Korbe second team. Brugues, the No. 7 ranked player in the nation and the No. 6 seed at the 2007 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Singles Championship, garners first team honors with a 3.65 GPA in exercise sport science and an impressive athletic resume. Brugues, a junior, is a reining NCAA All-American and the defending champion of the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championship, which he won in the fall. His championship was the first national championship for tennis at Tulsa or for Conference USA. He sports a 29-6 record and has advanced to the second round of the NCAA Singles Championship in Athens, Ga. He has amassed an 18-6 record against ranked opponents and has put together a career record of 48-9. Korbe, the No. 90 ranked player according to the Golfweek collegiate rankings, boasts a 3.76 GPA in biochemistry and has put together a solid senior season. Korbe is a second team All-C-USA selection and was also named to the five-member C-USA All-Academic team. He is one of five finalists for the prestigious Byron Nelson Award and has picked up eight top-20 finishes this season. He has been a C-USA Player of the Week selection, and was a medalist at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate. He sports a 73.2 career stroke average over 144 rounds of golf. He has two victories in his career and has 22 top-20 performances in 49 tournaments.
