Williamsburg, Va. - University of Tulsa men's golf coach Bill Brogden was named today the NCAA Division I Eaton Golf Pride Regional Coach of the Year for the central region, it was announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

Brogden led the Hurricane to four tournament titles and a top-20 national ranking this year. Tulsa captured the school's 11th conference championship, 10th under Brogden, with a 20-stroke win at the C-USA Championships.

In addition to the C-USA crown, his team won titles at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate, The Landfall Tradition and the NCAA Central Regional.

In 38 years as a collegiate golf coach, Brogden has enjoyed many successes. At four different Universities, He has taken teams to national prominence. During that time, Brogden's teams have now qualified for national competition 32 times, including 18 times to the national championship round. Brogden has earned conference coach of the year accolades 11 times, has been inducted into the GCAA Hall of Fame, has coached 22 All-Americans and has won 16 conference championships.

He has led Tulsa to six NCAA Tournaments, including a school-best finish of ninth place in 2002.

One coach was named from each of the nine regions. The nine regional coaches are now candidates for the Eaton Golf Pride Dave Williams Award, which is presented to the Division I national coach of the year.

The eight other award winners for the Eaton Golf Pride Regional Coaches of the Year include Tom Drennan of Rhode Island (New England), Longwood's Kevin Fillman (Mid-Atlantic), Allen Terrell of Coastal Carolina (South), Middle Tennessee's Johnny Moore (Southeast), Mark Crabtree of Louisville (Midwest), Brian White of Lamar (South Central), Brigham Young's Bruce Brockbank (Southwest) and Conrard Ray of Stanford (Pacific).
