IRVING, Texas- Roger Sloan of UTEP and Ana Maria Puche of East Carolina have been named Conference USA Golfers of the Week for the period ending Oct. 7. Sloan was the Miners’ top finisher at the Wolf Pack Classic in Reno, Nev., tying for second place after firing an eight-under-par 208 (69-73-66). Puche climbed from 16th place to finish in sixth at the Windy City Collegiate Classic in Evanston, Ill., after shooting a three-round score of 222 (78-73-71).

MEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK

Sloan had his best collegiate finish in four years for the Miners after tying for second place at the Wolf Pack Classic in Reno, Nev. The senior fired an eight-under-par 208 (69-73-66) to lead his team to an eighth place finish at the 13-team event. This is Sloan’s first Golfer of the Week honor.

WOMEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK

Puche recorded her fifth career Top 10 finish at the Windy City Collegiate Classic after carding a personal-best 54-hole score of 222 (78-73-71) to finish sixth. She helped the Pirates to a sixth place finish in their second event of the 2008-09 season. The junior recorded 32 pars and nine birdies, including four on the final day for a career-low round of 71, moving from 16th to sixth. This is Puche’s first career weekly honor.
