In the latest GolfWeek top 100 rankings released on Sunday, Oct. 5, Tulsa women pick up their third straight top 50 rank standing at No. 29 this week. Joining Tulsa in the top 50 this week is No. 38 UCF and rounding out the top 100 rankings on the women's side are Tulane(No. 52) and East Carolina(No. 74).


Roger Sloan of UTEP and Ana Maria Puche of East Carolina have been named Conference USA Golfers of the Week for the period ending Oct. 7. Sloan was the Miners’ top finisher at the Wolf Pack Classic in Reno, Nev., tying for second place after firing an eight-under-par 208 (69-73-66). Puche climbed from 16th place to finish in sixth at the Windy City Collegiate Classic in Evanston, Ill., after shooting a three-round score of 222 (78-73-71).

MEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Roger Sloan, UTEP
Sr., Merritt, British Columbia (Merritt Secondary School)

Sloan had his best collegiate finish in four years for the Miners after tying for second place at the Wolf Pack Classic in Reno, Nev. The senior fired an eight-under-par 208 (69-73-66) to lead his team to an eighth place finish at the 13-team event. This is Sloan’s first Golfer of the Week honor.

WOMEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Ana Maria Puche, East Carolina
Jr., Barranquilla, Colombia
Puche recorded her fifth career Top 10 finish at the Windy City Collegiate Classic after carding a personal-best 54-hole score of 222 (78-73-71) to finish sixth. She helped the Pirates to a sixth place finish in their second event of the 2008-09 season. The junior recorded 32 pars and nine birdies, including four on the final day for a career-low round of 71, moving from 16th to sixth. This is Puche’s first career weekly honor.

OTHER NOTABLE PERFORMANCES

RYAN BROOKS - TULSA
Brooks carded rounds of 74-66-70 for a three-under-par total of 210 to finish in fourth place at the Wondon Memorial Classic in Chicago, Ill. Brook’s fourth-place finish was the best finish of his career.

MARITA ENGZELIUS - TULSA
Engzelius had rounds of 77-77-67 for a nine-over-par 225 to finish in a tie for 21st place in a field of 90 at the Lady Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C. This is the freshman’s second Top 25 finish, including a tie for third-place at the Topy Cup in Japan.

MARIKA LENDL - UCF
Lendl finish in a four-way tie for 17th at the Lady Tar Heel Invitational after firing a 224 (76-70-78). Lendl’s 70 in the second round was her second 70 of the season.

TERESA NGOUES - UTEP
Ngoues finished sixth at the Bob Jurley Auto ORU Shootout in Tulsa, Okla., to lead UTEP to a second place finish at the 18-team tournament. She carded a 12-overpar 228 (76-74-78) as the Miners posted a team score of 924 (302-308-314).
