MEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK (10/10)
KYLE SAPP - UAB
Sr., Gardendale, Ala. (Mortimer-Jordan)
Sapp led UAB to a second-place finish at the prestigious Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, the team's third consecutive second-place finish of the season. The sophomore closed the 54-hole event with a career-low mark of eight-under par 205 (70-65-70). In fact, the entire event was one for the record books, as Sapp set career-best marks for 18 holes (65), 36 holes (135), 54 holes and tournament finish. In addition, the Gardendale, Ala. product led the Blazers to a record-setting week. After demolishing the school's 18-hole (262) record by 11 strokes and the 36-hole (545) tally by 15 strokes during Monday's first two rounds, UAB capped off its record-setting event by smashing the former 54-hole school record by 13 strokes, closing play with a 25-under par 827 (283-262-282). With the result, the UAB men's golf team improves to 36-3 on the 2007 campaign, including an impressive 9-2 mark against top-25 teams. The weekly honor is the first of Sapp's career.
