GREENSBORO, N.C. - UAB senior golfer Zack Sucher has been tabbed as one of the top-10 "2008 Dominators of the Year" in golf by SI.com, as published by the site. Sucher was ranked as the nation's No. 8 Dominator on a list that includes Tiger Woods (No. 2) and Lorena Ochoa (No. 3), among other amateur and professional golfers.

"This is a great honor for Zack," UAB head coach Alan Kaufman said. "Zack has had a tremendous year and has made a name for himself. It is great for him and great for our program."

"It's really nice to finally see where I've been placed among the top golfers in the country based on the last year," Sucher said. "You can't beat being on same list as people like Tiger Woods and Lorena Ochoa. It's pretty incredible."

According to SI.com's Gary Van Sickle, the Dominators of the Year rankings are based on the golfers' performance on the course against their peers.

Van Sickle also writes about Sucher, who earned a total of eight victories last year and is ranked as the sixth-best amateur golfer in the nation.

"Sucher successfully defended his Cardinal Amateur title in Greensboro, N.C., shot a course-record 62 en route to tying for first in the NCAA East Regional, won the Azalea Amateur, was unbeaten in three matches in the U.S. vs. Japan Championship in Tokyo and won four college events, including the Conference USA Championship," Van Sickle wrote.
