USF's Schoendorf and Smith Honored

Two University of South Florida men’s soccer players were honored for their efforts during the 2004 campaign. Simon Schoendorf was named to the College Soccer News All-Freshman First Team, and Kareem Smith was invited to train with the Trinidad and Tobago Under 20 National Team.

Schoendorf netted seven assists and 15 points on the season, leading the team in helpers and finishing second in points. The freshman also made an impact offensively in Conference USA, finishing third in assists per game (0.44). This will be the third end-of-season honor for the Karlsrhue, Germany, native, as he was named the C-USA Co-Freshman of the Year (sharing it with fellow teammate Rodrigo Hidalgo) along with being named to the all-conference second team.

Smith, a dual citizen of the United States and Trinidad and Tobago, accepted an invitation to join the Trinidad and Tobago Under 20 National Team as it prepares for the final round of CONCACACF qualifying matches for the 2005 World Youth Championship. The Hyde Park, Mass., native has been a member of the U-14, U-16 and U-18 National Teams of the United States, and now he is vying for a spot on the Trinidad and Tobago National Team. Smith anchored the Bulls’ defense this year, helping USF not allow a goal in 418 minutes while tallying six shutouts – four consecutive – on the season. He has been honored for his defensive play during the season as he was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week twice and was named to the all-conference first team at the end of the season.
